Introduction:
This page introduces the work we have been doing to use neural networks to create images of novel IEDs and IED components. This work was funded by the Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate.
To evaluate the realism of synthetic imagery, we have developed a perceptual test that you are welcome to participate in.
How the perceptual test works:
You will be presented with a pair of images. One, both or neither of the images will be fake. By fake we mean the image looks like it was generated by an algorithm.
For each image pair, click on the images you think are fake to select them and then click the "Submit selection" button to go to the next image pair.
If you think both images are real, click "Both images are real" to load the next pair of images.
You have 20 seconds to make your decisions for each image pair.
You will be presented with a total of 50 image pairs and will be told when testing is complete.
Testing will take at most 15 minutes of your time. If you start the test, we strongly encourage you to finish it.
When you're finished:
At the end of the test, you will be presented with a score.
Score | Meaning |
---|---|
< 50 | You did a good job spotting fake images. |
= 50 | You were unable to distinguish fake images from real images. |
> 50 | The fake imagery appeared hyper realistic. |
